Rally Obedience originated in the USA. I have been teaching it in the UK since around 2008 before it officially came to the UK in 2010, under a different name. It is a much more fun and challenging way to train. Both owner and dog go home tired because it involves a lot of thinking!! It’s a great way to train if your dog is on restricted exercise as you can go as fast or as slow as you want, unless competing.
Dogs and their handlers negotiate a course with numbered signs indicating different exercises to perform, such as Sit, Serpentine once, send over jump, fast forward from Sit and About turn right.
Handlers are encouraged to talk to their dogs and reward during the performance. Rally O is described as combining the characteristics of sports car racing, dog agility and traditional obedience into a new fun sport.
The best part is that as long as your dog has a basic level of training you can take part and have a go at a course.
I run courses around the country. If you and five friends would like to have an introduction to Rally please do contact us to see how I can help.
